Sergei Tarasov, a student of the Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory, became a revelation at the All-Union pianists audition for the international competition "Prague Spring", 1988. The jury unanimously chose him out of 49 participants.
Pianists from 26 countries took part in the "Prague Spring" competition, but Tarasov got the First Prize being the youngest winner in the 40 year history of the "Prague Spring"...
Sergei Tarasov was born in Moscow, 1971, into a family of musicians and started his piano studies at the age of six. In 1981, he entered the Central Music School, then the Moscow Conservatoire which graduated under Lev Naumov.
Tarasov was awarded 2nd prizes at the 1995 Ferruccio Busoni and Arthur Rubinstein competitions before winning the 1996 Sydney International Piano Competition. He subsequently got the 4th prize at the 1998 International Tchaikovsky Competition and won the 1999 Premio Jaén.
