   S. Richter and O. Kagan make up a most cohesive ensemble with the age discrepancy causing no discord in their joint appearances: Svyatoslav Richter amazes us with his unfading youth while Oleg Kagan impresses with a genuinely ripe mastery.
Little has been written about Richter's playing in ensemble, yet that side of his activity, enormously rich over the long years of his artistic career, constitutes a brilliant page of modern performing art.  One could hardly name another concertizing pianist who so tirelessly explored the endless treasures of chamber music in all of its fields and genres.  The  "chamber" concerts reveal the two facets of Richter's talent: a rare musical universality and yet a unique individuality.  In ensemble Richter is extremely tactful, flexible, attentive to the partner and always keeping his own inimitable personality.
