Vladimir Krainev (b. 1944) is one of the most brilliant representatives of the Russian piano school. His ascent to success began in his childhood years back in Kharkov. Years of study followed first at the Central Music School in Moscow and from 1962 at the Conservatoire under Professor Heinrich Neuhaus (the postgraduate course was completed under the guidance of his son Stanislav Neuhaus). Krainev's successful appearances at international competitions (first in 1963 - 1964 in Leeds and Lisbon) were followed by the first prize at the 4th International Tchaikovsky Competition (1970). That was the start of Krainev's extensive concert appearances which brought him world-wide recognition. In 1976, Krainev was awarded the Lenin Komsomol prize and in 1984 - the title of the RSFSR People's Artist for his concert programs of 1973 - 1975 and great contribution to the aesthetic education of young musicians.
